Cathy’s Corner- Our Animal Care Manager Update
June
Ms. Cathy Ford is The Center’s animal care manager - Here are a few of the wonderful things we do, Cathy manages and reports on. Animal Care Manager - July 10’ Report
With 500 animals to look after, she has a lot to report on...here are a few
Dr. Zeltzman performed Bilateral Luxating Patella surgery at Easton Animal Hospital on both Buttercup and Jennifer, two of our resident cats. Both are recuperating at the shelter and are on a special prescriptive diet for joint disease with the addition of glucosamine added to their diet This surgery was performed in order to stabilize both their kneecaps (they will, however, experience arthritis). Both cats are undergoing physical therapy 2x a day and are confined to their cages for approx. 8wks.
FHO surgery was performed on Moofy, a dsh kitten who came in with both a fractured jaw and rear leg. Moofy is doing well and recouping at the shelter. His jaw has healed and he eats well. Moofy is also undergoing physical therapy 2x a day and is confined to his cage for approx. 8wks.
Josh, a dsh cat who came into the shelter with ligament and bone exposed from an injury to his both rear hocks/paws - Josh is not fully recovered; there may have been damage to more than his back legs because his attempts at walking normally are impaired. However, we are giving him time out of his cage and the more he exercises, the better he walks.
Idy, a cattle dog mix female who has been in “foster to adopt” for a over a year due to a severe state of mange has finally been successfully treated - While being spayed, a mass mass was removed from her mammary chain – the biopsy was benign.
Zelda, a beautiful tan and white pit who was already spayed needed a mass removed from her leg (not cancerous) and she has now been adopted.
